Coupon Organizer

Coupon Organizer

We are all having to find ways to save money.  I’ve seen more people with regular mailing envelopes stuffed with coupons as they do their grocery shopping.

I watched as one poor woman had a frustrating time chasing after her coupons when the envelope split and the contents spilled all over the place.

I don’t know about you but, the cute little coupon wallets that are available nearly everywhere are just not big enough for my hands to fit in them.  I end up with torn cuticles by the time I reach the check out counter from the tops of the dividers.  Sometimes it is very painful and  I just don’t want to carry that rotten thing around with me.

This Coupon Holder is larger than the regular kind.  The base of it is made from a legal file folder cut down and the bottom is reinforced with a strip from the file folder.  There are six business sized mailing envelopes (or the #10 envelopes) as the  pockets.  I have also solved the problem with the cut cuticles by using strips of the file folder to reinforce the tops of the joined envelopes.

Reinforced envelope tops

The extra reinforcement on the envelope tops takes the sharp edges away and it also gives them added strength for when I get to ramming around in there.

Since I have used the larger envelopes in this holder you can use it for the recipes you collect from magazines instead of for coupons.  The longer length affords more room for the recipes.

The tabs are cut from my Tab Punch.  Before attaching the tabs to the divided pockets you can write, or use a labeler, on the tabs to designate each section.  For example as a coupon holder you can have a section for Dairy, Meat, Frozen Foods, Bathroom supplies like shampoo and bathroom paper, Household items like floor cleaner or dusting products, and Beverages like coffee or soda.

The holder is held closed with a length of 5/8″ Certainly Celery Satin Ribbon.  It is securely attached on the back of the holder.  You can see the envelope pockets have been gusseted for extra room inside.

Full instructions to create this Coupon Holder will be included in the kit for those that have signed up for the Gift Central Club.  Once you create yours you can add all the embellishments you want and bling that puppy out 🙂

This looks like a really lovely and useful item to carry around in your handbag (purse). Those word differences sometimes catch me out! You see here in the UK a purse is what we women keep our cash and credit cards in and we keep that small purse in our hand or shoulder bags 🙂
Anyway back on topic – a lovely wallet indeed (oh no another one – a wallet is what a man keeps his money notes and credit cards in!!)
I made something similar to this a Christmas or two ago for some family members. One was a recipe holder and one was for storing packets of flower seed in.
We rarely have the coupons you seem to have over there.

    Love and hugs
    Lynn xx

This Coupon Holder measures 9-1/4″ x 5-1/4″. To fit in a purse a person would need to have a big tote bag like affair to carry it. Some people call these things “wallets” because it has compartments with a closure like a man’s wallet. Funny how the names of similar items differ from place to place.

Great idea to use for seed packets. An avid gardener would appreciate such an item, I would think. Those little seed packets have a way of escaping rapidly.

I think a bit of research is needed in finding out the origin of the coupon. I have no idea when it started and how it got started. I do know that most grocery stores have Wednesday as their big coupon days where the face value is doubled. Our Sunday newspapers come out with an insert that is full of coupons. Sometimes I think grocery shopping is a major event where the retailers work overtime to get us in their doors to buy more than we really think we need 🙂

Thank you Indira. How about your country? Dominican Republic? Do your grocery stores have coupons? Maybe you and Lynn, in the UK, would use something like this for say small scraps of paper you just can’t seem to part with 🙂

Hey there Nancy. Wondered if you got snowed in with this crazy weather that has been happening. How much snow have you guys had so far this winter? Shelly, in Illinois, has not seen a let up in this mess since it started around Christmas. Thank you for your comment. This would make a great organizational tool, and that is one of the reasons I chose to do this. There is plenty of “real estate” for flowers, flourishes, rhinestones, and bling 😉 for those so inclined to have a show piece.

    Good morning Leslie!
We actually haven’t had any new snow here in quite some time! When we have the really cold temps the snow doesn’t come. Then it got really warm and rained so some of the snow went down. Then it got really cold…no snow! Today it will be above zero again and it will be a slushy MESS!! lol Up and down and up and down!! Craziness!! haha
I hafta tell ya…you’re coming out with some great projects!! That file folder mini is so great! I haven’t made it out to the store yet to check on some of those items, but that project is on my list for sure! Love this one too! Keep them coming! How are your clubs going? They sound like so much fun!!
    Love you,
    Nancy :o)

Thank you Nancy. I appreciate your loving words.

Brrr, brr, brr, brrr. I guess you have to have all the precipitation to have the lush growth where you live, but good grief! You take care of yourself in your travels outside your home – if you have to get out. That slush, in my opinion, is more dangerous to drive on than the packed snow. That slush can take you places you had no intention of going 😦 Plus it ruins the footwear and clothing which means more laundry 😦 Ack, ack, ack!

I’m off to check out what you have been doing on your blog and to see what beautimous thing you have created this time.
      Love you – Leslie
